VIT B.Tech Admission Fees Refund..

How I got my admission fees refunded from Vellore Institute of Technology..
Your Ad Here
Vellore Institute of Technology hold its counselling in the month of July, way before that of other prominent universities and engineering institutes
-- Their way of filling their coffers ofcourse..they don't refund the counselling fees(Rs.30,000 for me last year) you see unlike the IITs and NITs.
Plus uncertain students like me, who've given dozens of exams already, to secure the best future, rush along to register for whatever branch is available. Most of us then later get admission in a more prestigious, reputed college and want our money back...

Refund of fees is done according to certain UGC norms -- it means VIT gets deduct some money even though I did not attend a single class, did not even stay a single day in the the hostel room that hadn't yet been alloted to me.
I don't really know what the UGC norms are, its somthing like - fees deduction from initially paid admission fees depends on the number of days after admission you want to leave .

  1. We went to Vellore, met the admissions officer personally. (going to Vellore is not necessary - you can mail your letters too.)
  2. He asked us to write a letter with my Name, Branch, Registration No., DD no. etc that said somthing like 'I wanted to withdraw my admission.' to Admissions Office, VIT, Vellore .
  3. We wrote another letter to 'The Chief Warden, VIT, Vellore' which goes like this - 'I would like to withdraw my hostel room for which I have sent a DD, by courier, of Rs.69,000 drawn from Union Bank of India, Pune, dated 16/6/08.Kindly make arrangements for the refund. Thanking you, .....'. You should write in your full name, address, contact number.
  4. They then handed me a 'No Dues' Form..which was quite absurd, but standard procedure for withdrawal I suppose. I was given directions and made to go to certain athorities' offices , to sign my forms.
  5. I submitted the 'No Dues' form, photocopy of DDs and my 'Temporary Identity Card' given to me during admissions.
  6. We got the letter placed in my file, that the institute had created after my admission.
  7. VIT did not respond for several weeks. We kept calling them. There was a problem we were told, we didn't have any receipt for fees payment...
I had sent in my fees and hostel option form through DD to the Admissions Office. We didn't get any official confirmation neither any fee receipt, hence we called up the office ourselves for confirmation, which they'd then given on the phone.
  8. Finally after lots of calling and talking, we got our fees refund after 6 months, after deduction of Rs. 10,000.

Fee Structure at NIT Warangal ..

From www.nitw.ac.in
  1. For The Batches Admitted In 2009-2010 And Onwards
Tution and other Fees, in Rupees, to be paid each semester-

Semester I II III IV V VI VII VIII
B.Tech. 35100 17500 21500 17500 21500 17500 21500 18200

2. In addition, every odd semester students have to pay Hostel fees. For the First semester for the 2009 batch this amounts to Rs.15,000.

3. Mess bills have to be paid every month at SBH or Andhra Bank. The amount varies every month, approximately Rs. 1500.

Misc: Students will need to buy new books, as prescribed by professors, every semester. Then there are phone bills. The mess does not serve dinner on Saturdays, only a sort of tea at 4 pm, so you might want to order your food..

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bachelor of Technology is an undergraduate academic degree conferred after completion of a three or four year program of studies at an accredited university or accredited university-level institution. The common abbreviation for Bachelor of Technology is B.Tech. The degree is conferred in the Commonwealth of Nations, Republic of Ireland, India, the United States and elsewhere.
In India, the Bachelor of Technology degree is conferred by the nation’s top ranked government universities of technology like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) as well as a host of other prestigious institutes (both public and privately funded ) like Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU, Delhi), Mumbai University Institute of Chemical Technology (UICT, Matunga, Mumbai), College of Engineering, Pune (COEP), Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI, Matunga, Mumbai), Vardhaman Engineering College(HYDERABAD), Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT, Gandhinagar, India) for their professional engineering programs. However most other institutions in India use the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree and some of them are in the process of replacing over to the B.Tech programme.

A Bachelor of Science (B.S., B.Sc. or BSc in the UK; less commonly, S.B., B.S.c. or Sc.B. from the Latin Scientiæ Baccalaureus) is an undergraduate academic degree awarded for completed courses that generally last three to five years.
Commonly in the Commonwealth and Ireland graduands are admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Science after having completed a programme in one or more of the sciences. These programmes may take different lengths of time to complete.
A Bachelor of Science receives the designation B.Sc. or B.S. for a major/pass degree and B.Sc. (Hons) or B.S. (Hons) for an honours degree.

Question from Yahoo Answers
Whish is better bsc biotech or btech biotech and which has better job oppurtunities?

Answer 1)
B.Tech biotechnology is more better than B.Sc biotechnology.Because both are bachelor courses but if u go for opportunities B.Tech has preference. So,If u don’t go with degree means B.Sc.In degree u have theory and less practical But with B.Tech u will have more practical and theory. And u may have confusion with B.Sc(Biotechnology) is not a single course. It has multiple subjects so choosing a course is tidy for you.So better go with B.Tech than B.Sc

Answer 2)Both are two different things. Bsc Biotec is degree cource and BTec biotec is eng. (4 yrs)If you want to do BSc Biotec you need to again give an entrance test after completion of BSc for MSc and a then do Phd. Its lenghty but a good course. If you have dedication, good family support then you can try for Bsc Biotec.Gen. Btec biotec are taken by student who want to complete their eng course and do MBA and get a job. However both are good and there is good opportunity in both the cases.India is far behind , you need to do a very hard work through out if you have that dedication pl proceed.

Answer 3) from MAYBE NOW.com
i think btech is better than bsc.if u preafer teaching line than bsc honers is good.becoz by that u get specialised in a perticular stream.ND if u r not interested in teaching line than btech is good.In private companies demand of btech is quiet in as compared to bsc.By doing mba after that one can very nicely settle him/herself .well one can do mtech if he/she want to b a lecturrer.

Kazipet-warangal - how to get there

from WIKIPEDIA
Kazipet is a town in Warangal district, Andhra Pradesh, India, one of the tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamakonda-Kazipet. Kazipet is famous for being a major railway junction and locomotive maintenance division in Andhra Pradesh after Vijayawada. The railway junction is located next to a large granite hill (known as bodigutta), which is used to house radio communications, presumably for the railways. It is the hub connecting North and South, East and West India with more than 60 trains passing through.

One of India’s best engineering institutes (National Institute of Technology, Warangal- NIT) is located in Kazipet. Also the Kakatiya University and the Kakatiya Medical college attached to the MGM govt. hospital is the third largest medical college in the state.

Warangal is located at 18°00′N 79°35′E / 18.0°N 79.58°E. It has an average elevation of 302 metres (990 feet). Warangal is 145 km northeast of the state capital of Hyderabad. It is the fourth largest city in Andhra Pradesh.Warangal was the capital of a Hindu Shaivaite kingdom ruled by the Kakatiya dynasty from the 12th to the 14th centuries. The old name of this newly formed city is Orugallu. ‘Oru’ means one and ‘Kallu’ means stone. The entire city was carved in a single rock, hence the name Orukallu meaning ‘one rock’. The city was also called Ekasila nagaram. The Kakatiyas left many monuments, including an impressive fortress, four massive stone gateways, the Swayambhu temple dedicated to Shiva, and the Ramappa temple situated near Ramappa Lake. The cultural and administrative distinction of the Kakatiyas was mentioned by the famous traveller Marco Polo.
A STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) has been set up at National Institute of Technology, Warangal with the intention of taking the benefits of the Information Technology revolution to second tier cities. Warangal makes an excellent location for this because of its proximity to Hyderabad, the student pool from some of the best institutes in the country, good transportation facilities, infrastructure, lower traffic problems, etc.Warangal is known for its granite quarries (notably the black and brown varieties), grain market (for rice and chillies), cotton, and tobacco.

Transport

Air : There is an airstrip at Mamnoor on the south-eastern outskirts of Warangal. The nearest international airport is located at Shamshabad 160 km away, near Hyderabad.
Rail : Warangal is well connected to all the major cities in India by rail. Kazipet, about 13km from Warangal is a major railway junction on the Bangalore/Hyderabad-New Delhi route while Warangal is a major station on the Hyderabad/New Delhi-Chennai route. Aptly, Warangal is called the gateway to north India. Daily nearly 132 trains passing section including two Rjadhani exps.

Road : There are two major bus stations (hubs); Warangal and Hanamakonda. Long-distance deluxe buses ply from Warangal to Bangalore, Madras, Hyderabad, Tirupathi, Anantapur, and [[Hubli] [belgam]; and standard express buses to Guntur via Vijaywada, Cherial, Jangaon, Kodad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Suryapet, Palampet, Jagtial, Narasampet, Parkal, Khammam, Bhadrachalam, Basara, etc.

NIT-Warangal inks pacts with Finnish universities

Hyderabad
May 21, 2009
The National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Warangal has signed academic collaboration agreements with Finland’s University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology, an institute official said on Thursday.
The pacts were signed last week in Finland, NIT-Warangal Director Y.V. Rao said on his return from that country. “These pacts allow for collaborations in systems, teaching methodologies, courses, content, hands-on learning, student exchange programmes and interaction with the industry,” Rao said. NIT-W entered into a similar pact in February with ESIGELEC School of Engineering, Rouen, France, to promote research and academic exchange in automation and instrumentation and embedded systems.
NIT-W, which is celebrating its golden jubilee year, also has collaborative agreements with Bellfort Technical University of France, as well as Lawrence Technical University and Cincinnati University of the US. IANS

NITW Aspirants - FAQs

This is from
http://agpweb.wordpress.com/category/nit-warangal/ by Ajay George Palakuzhy
NIT Warangal for the Aspirant : A collection of valuable information about the prestigious institution National Institute of Technology,Warangal (NIT Warangal)for the future NITians as well as for anyone who would like to know more about this college

Sadly there is no authoratative guide on the net regarding this issue.
So I thought about writing this one…

NIT Warangal has always been on the list of the best technical education institutes
in India.Facilities are at par with the best in the country and the highly experienced faculty adds to the strong academic curriculum.
Admission process for NIT Warangal is through the AIEEE examination and there is state wise quota.
There is a separate admission process for Foreign Students (DASA Scheme).
Popular FAQ:
1. The first question that comes to the mind is where is Warangal?
Ans: Warangal is one of the best cities in Andhra Pradesh, just 2 hours from Hyderabad.Reaching Warangal is just child’s play.Warangal is well connected by both road and rail.
All the trains on the Delhi Route stop by Warangal.Alternatively you can reach ‘Kazipet’ as the college is nearer to it.(But guys from Kerala , remember no direct train stops at Kazipet.Catch the Kerala Exp or an alternate train.)

2. I reached Warangal,where is the college(NIT Warnagal)?
Ans: From the Warangal station it is just half an hour on the Autorickshaw (autos are the popular means of commutation not buses.)It will cost you around 40-50 bucks (depending upon your negotiation skill) and if you are travelling alone you can have a ’share auto’ (autos look the same, but say direct for direct auto) for Rs 8-10.

3.Ok, now I reached the college, where is the counselling centre?
Ans: You will be guided to the centre by the volunteers at the gate,Don’t panic. We will be there to guide you.
The counselling should go fine and you can give your options and see around the college.
The Central Library is sure to stun you (one of the best technical libraries in the country) and the new administrative block is going to be an architectural wonder.(Hope that the construction is complete.)

4. Oh my god this place is infested with naxalites!!!
Never. This has been the question put forward by most of the parents with whom I interacted…
They were a thing of the past, you can safely send your ward over…

5. Which bank operates closest to NITW?State Bank of Hyderabad has a college branch and an ATM. Most of us use the SBH and many have an account also.
Let me share a cool hack.Instead of opening an account you could give your son/daughter the ATM card of the account at home (All State Bank cards are taken, along with some other banks) saving you the trouble of going through the process of actually creating one.
Other than SBH, we have Andhra Bank,ICICI at Hanamkonda (10 minutes from the college by auto).

Kazipet-Warangal - How to get there?

It is the fourth largest city in Andhra Pradesh.
Warangal was the capital of a Hindu Shaivaite kingdom ruled by the Kakatiya dynasty from the 12th to the 14th centuries.

Road : There are two major bus stations (hubs); Warangal and Hanamakonda. Long-distance deluxe buses ply from Warangal to Bangalore, Madras, Hyderabad, Tirupathi, Anantapur, and [[Hubli] [belgam];
and standard express buses to Guntur via Vijaywada, Cherial, Jangaon, Kodad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Suryapet, Palampet, Jagtial, Narasampet, Parkal, Khammam, Bhadrachalam, Basara, etc.

NIT Warangal - What to pack for Hostel

Yipee! Glorious NITW life beacons..

but hey!? WHAT SHOULD I PACK FOR HOSTEL??
Don’t worry … Orpita will help you out ..Here are the bare essentials :

1)Mattress for the metal cot that will be provided.
In the hostel room will be provided a metal cot, a table and a cupboard(with or without a door), one tubelight, 4 switchboards, 2 fans. The windows have a mesh or screen to keep out the mosquitoes.
Vendors selling Mattresses at nominal rates (Rs 200-300 – depending on how well you bargain)sit outside the Hostel Office from the Registration days till 1st day of college. Also you’ll find Airtel, Vodafone etc. people selling SIM cards, plans etc.

2)Bucket and MugFor the first year girls Last Year, 4 bathrooms , 3 toilets and 2 basins had to be shared between 32 girls. This year , life will be a lot more comfortable for the guys, since the New Mega Hostels are ready to be ocupied! The New Girls Hostels are under construction and will be ready by next year…

3)Your Clothes ofcourse and hardy shoes- Girls – remember to pack in all your Salwar Kameezes, get some stitched if you don’t have any..heed my advice, you’ll be thankful later! – Guys – Take out those formal striped shirts and trousers, no not the jeans , the cloth material stuff.

4)The usual toiletries – soap, shampoo, clothes washing soap(get the cheap varieties-the washing ladies are not all that sincere), maybe Prill Dishwash liquid, Odomos – Is Absolutely Necessary if you are sensitive to mosquitoes. There are several washing ladies in the girls hostel. They charge Rs.60/month to wash your clothes everyday. You need to put your dirty laundry and soap/detergent in your bucket(you need to write your name on the bucket) and place it outside your door before locking up your room for college. The washing lady you Recruit(..lol..eng’neerin coll terminology) will wash your clothes and put in to dry on the clothesline in fronth of your room.
The Ironing Man takes in youer clothes once every 3 days.

5)You might want to get a plate, glass , bowl. The Messes provide 3 meals a day + tea in the evenings. Saturday night no dinner is served, its called “Dry Mess”. And college students get pretty hungry.. You’l need your utensils to serve the very famous Maggi, we people seem to survive on .

IMPT – There are several supermarkets and shops at walking distance from the campus to buy all these Bare Essentials.. I would advise you to buy whatever you can from Warangal. Get just the most essential items from home.. cause even then, I’m predicting, your suitcases’ll be pretty heavy .
Also, keep in mind, at the end of the year, you need to vacate your rooms. Yea! thats right..you have to carry your stuff home or leave it in trunks in the “cloak room”..

NIT Warangal - getting there

The deemed university.. 'The' National Institute of Technology, Warangal is about 10 minutes distance from Kazipet station.
It takes about 30 minutes from Warangal station.

Warangal was the capital city of the Kakatiya Dynasty. There are tens and hundreds of beautiful temples crammed all about the city to soothe your mums strained nerves :). The road to the institute from Kazipet is lined with several small shops, bakeries (only the 'cold' pinapple pastries are any good), passing over a flyover, at the end of which, a right turn will take you to a very good St.Anne's hospital run by nuns. Further ahead right turns will take you to a dargah , another right turn leading to a church. Then, a left turn will take you to Waddepali lake and temple.
Warning to all prospective students - The Rickshaw drivers are atrocious cheaters - They should be paid only Rs. 30-35 for the journey, with luggage, till inside the NIT campus. You can ask you to drop you till the NIT auditorium or Girls/Boys Hostel. The drivers are all mostly aware of the layout of the campus.

Rickshaw charges are otherwise- Rs. 4-6 per person...the rickshaw stops along the way picking passengers travelling to the same destination. You also have the option of taking a Rick 'direct' , ie. only you will travel in the rick. You have to say for ex. " Hanumakonda chowrasta- DIRECT" . The Rick driver will charge you around Rs 20 for the journey.
Hanumakonda chowrasta, anyway, is the chief shopping centre NIT studdents go to. It is Rs. 6/person away from the NIT campus. Trinethra super market and 'Reliance Fresh' is Rs.4/person away. 'Suprabha' 5-star hotel and 'Mitra' hotelis Rs.5-6 away.

VIT counselling procedure

VIT counselling procedure

The Vellore Institute of Technology - Beautiful campus, well-equiped classrooms and laboratories, large cafeterias, shopping areas, glossy brochures - very rude, unhelpful people- the place stunk of lavishness, including the students. We paid Rs30,000 just to attend the counselling. That was more than the entire admission fees and semester fees I paid at NITW ( Rs 27,000 app.). And this amount was forfeited, unlike in the IITs where counselling fees are returned if a student does not take admission in the IIT.

There were several hotels some distance from the campus, several eateries on and around the campus.

The counselling procedure consists of dozens of steps and procedures that included a medical check-up where we were made to do everything from getting ourselves weighed, height, vision checked, gulping down de-worming tablets, getting a picture clicked to allowing the nurses to inject needles into our arm to draw blood samples and peeing on strips of paper for god-only-knows-what purpose! A bus outside the medical centre gave prospective students and parents a tour of the campus of the classrooms, libraries etc.

It invoved a lot of moving around , the usual verification, visiting the photocopier shops, until finally we were allowed into the computer room, to select our choice of branch.Thankfully they had provided us with a flier listing the various steps. We had to follow the line according to roll no order as we were led around. And just when we seemed to be at the end of our ordeal they declared the lunch break from about 1-2.30 or 2-2.30 ,I can't remember.

There were about 5000 seats available I think but only about 60% of these got filled up at the end of the 1st round of counselling ,till VITEEE AIR of 6000. Hence invariably the next set of students, of AIR more than 6000 are given calls to come for counsellling.Courses like Bioinformatics, Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering seats though, get alloted to students almost immediately, on the first day of counselling itself. After these the computer sciences, electrical, chemical branche allotments drag on for days.I found out from some friend that even up to AIR 26,000 had got a seat in VIT.

The procedure after lunch was pretty straightforward and finally we could go back to our hotel.

BITSAT
The last exam for most students..Question are just a bit more difficult compared to AIEEE,lot simpler than IITJEE. Speed is the key for this exam.
After the initial identity verification and submission of print - out of admit form students are ushered into the computer centre. They are then each given a blank booklet on which is written the number of the computer assigned to us. This booklet is to be used for calculation and rough work.
Students are then asked to take their places in fronth of the numbered computer screens. The students has to type in their roll no. on the screen and their picture with their roll no. below appears.
Several invigilators keep moving aroung the room. Computer screens are placed as in internet cafes, so that one student cannot look into the other's screen. If there is any problem whatsoever the invigilators are always at hand to sort it out. Students then have to wait till the invigilator announces it's time to start and the BITSAT test appears on the screen. The test looks exactly like the Sample test on the official website, except it has more question ofcourse :)
Students can complete and submit their test any time , withen the 180 minutes alloted . The number of correct and wrong answers and your score will appear immediately on the screen.
You are then free to leave............a free bird............holidays for you at last...... :) :)

AIEEE counselling procedure ...

http://moneyandorp.blogspot.com http://mysticalorp.blogspot.com

My AIEEE result was out last year on June 3rd. My AIR was 10,068. According to the information brocure online( I'd registered online for the exam) I was to attend counselling on 6th July. Off - campus counselling was to be held from June 23rd to 29th . WHile the on-campus one was to begin on July 4th for AIR 1- 5000, July 5th for AIR 5000- 10,000 and so on.

The off -campus counselling was kind of like a dress rehearsal to the main on-campus counselling.

On-Campus ie. counselling in the campus of the NIT of the state from where you gave your exam, involves waiting for your turn in a big hall, after requisite identity verifications , signing of documents selecting prioritywise a list of college and branch on the computer in the hall.

This procedure may vary from NIT to NIT but in NIT Nagpur or VNIT as its called it was like this. There was also a big sceen on which the most recent status of seats available was visible . By recent I mean the number of seats left after allocation of seats to students who attended counselling on the previous day. This seat status is available on the official website everyday as well, updated after 4pm when counselling for a certain day is done.

You should come prepared to stay the night in the counselling city, your seat allocation is displayed the next day on the counselling campus as well as on the official website. I had to then take a printout from the website of my allotment. Now remember, THE COLLEGE THAT YOU ARE NOW ALLOTED CANNOT BE CHANGED. If you want some other AIEEE college you'l have to wait for counselling next year .

Withen a certain date I was instructed to go to the NIT I waas alloted to fill my fees and take admission. Suppose you don't turn up within this time to pay your fees, your admission is cancelled. Your seat is given to somone who opted for form 2 during counselling.

So, well in the off-campus counselling, comfortably from your home (you need net connection at home ofcourse) you have to register for on-campus counselling. Then you are shown the same computer screen you will see in the counselling hall when you will punch in your final choices. You can type in your priority list( if you read my posts regularly you'd have already made this list) .

The next day the computer will tell you what college and branch you will be alloted based on your priority list. You can immediately make changes to your list , the next day the computer will again tell you which college you will be alloted based on your modified priority list. REMEMBER, THIS PRIORITY LIST IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO THE LIST YOU TYPE IN DURING ON-CAMPUS COUNSELLING. You may change your list altogether or type in the same list again during on-campus.

Procedure for AIEEE counselling.. Good College vs Favourite Stream

http://mysticalorp.blogspot.com/ http://moneyandorp.blogspot.com/

With soooo many colleges..sooo many branches...and your career at stake, counselling can get quite confusing.. I know a few friends who made an ill-informed decision regarding their choice of college and are now cribbing and crying at their fate.

A good college will get you the best placement available to a student of your capabilities. Or if you're planning on further studies, IITs , BITs and NITs are the few Indian universities that are well-known abroad , which will make it easier for you to get accepted in an esteemed institute or obtain that wonderful scholarship.

Hence I couldn't overemphasise how necessary it is that a student is aware of which college, which stream , in which part of the India you will be interested in..especially the girls.

In my case, my parents told me at the last minute ,the day before I was to fill my AIEEE college choices, that I shouldn't opt for NIT jaipur or calicut or kurukshetra..They were worried about my safety in the north , these places were too far away from my home in Pune. Luckily I got the branch of my choice (Biotechnology)in a good NIT (warangal)+ my parents were happy too cause I have relatives in Secunderabad, which is 2 hours from Warangal. My AIR was 10,068.

It is very necessary that you keep your options flexible...

Make a list of minimum 20 options - in order of priority .

Your columns should be 1)College

2)Stream you are interested in,in that college

3)Which part of india the college is in

Ofcourse , choosing a good college should be your priority..

But suppose you clear JEE, don't know how to draw yet take Naval architecture ,because thats the only option available to you in IIT , while you could get EEE(assume you're interested in this ) in NIT warangal, I'd say you're doomed. You'l strugle with your academics all the time, you'l get the lowest CGPA( cause you'l be one of the highest ranks in IIT), you won't be happy ..

Now if you'd taken EEE, you'd do well academically, have loads of free time for other hobbies and personality development(important too) ,you'd be happy . Like 'The Alchemist' emphasised - Our personal calling in that which "fills us with enthusiasm".. You cannot achieve success in that which you donot put your heart and soul into, or by forcing yourself to do it when you don't want to . The best part is that there is high probability that you'l get ECE(which has more market value as of now) after the sliding procedure.

Especially since this recession has increased the importance of a student knowing his/her subject matter well .Until last year student from all possible branches got sucked into the IT industry for obscenely inflated salaries. But not anymore cause the IT industry is down, its stagnating..Biotechnology is the future :)

But as I said earlier a good college is of utmost importance too. The best companies (ie the ones that are still recruiting) the best jobs will come only to the best colleges.

K.. I guess you're a lil confused, think over it, what are these 2 months holidays for anyway?

If you have any question ,it would be my greatest pleasure to help you out, with whatever limited knowledge i have :)

If you want to contradict me , well, thats encouraged too, cause i like a good argument, and for the benefit of the readers :)

Just COMMENT!

State board or CBSE for 11th ,12th

12th board marks arn't really a priority for someone who wants to pursue engineering.Only certain minimum marks are required to be eligible for entrance exams which are ever more important , like IITJEE needs minimum 60%.To appear for BITSAT you'l need 80%..thats the highest you'l have to study for, and believe me noone will ever ask you bout your 12th marks after the initial 'how you done's,but your entrance exam ranks will decide your life..almost :)..

The syllabus for JEE, BITSAT, AIEEE and VITEEE are pretty similar , to each other and similar to the CBSE syllabus. Since board exams are not a priority ,there is an argument that students should join a state board college ,since in Maharashtra the academics are less time-consuming and easier compared to CBSE and ICSE.

I disagree though. From personal experience I can say that my CBSE high school education helped my tremendously in clearing AIEEE.If you want to focus on MHT-CET then you should go ahead with a HSC college, though why should a student aim for somthing low-gain when he might as well give a few of the most prestigious exams in the country a try.

A few more points

1) 12th HSC boards test both 11th and 12th syllabus, while CBSE tests only 12th syllabus.

2)The HSC syllabus is about 75% different from other exams. There is ample time after the other exams to brush up and learn the CET syllabus for CBSE students since JEE and AIEEE are held in April while CET is held in May.

JEE, AIEEE, BITSAT differ barelt 5% from each other . JEE is about 20% less that CBSE 11th and 12th syllabus , but has to be explored and understood far more in detail.

AIEEE syllabus is the same as CBSE.

BITSAT ans VITEEE are similar ,include a few more topics, delete a few.

So Gals and Guys, 11th and 12th are 2 very crucial years for those who want to make somthing of their lives..you have to study really really hard.
I'd said 'almost' earlier. I also know loads of people who decided 'I'm going to shut out my life, my only priority is studies'. These guys will remain cooped up indoors all day with no time-out, no resfeshment, at the same time they might not even do very well academically.
The key is to maintain a healthy balance of studies and a little physical activity and enjoyment to keep the brain fit and happy. Not too much also because remember you're investing your time and effort for wonderful rewards later in life.

What to do after 10th..

Its terrible that most people here in Pune don't have any idea about the IITs and NITs . Its particularly insulting to my effort I've put in to get to NITW when people say "What? Your studying in Warangal(after I'v explained where warangal is that is)? Did you not get admission in Pune(as though I'm some failure studying on a management quota..I've qualified AIEEE for heaven's sake),beta?" . Bharti Vidyapeeth,Pune came a distant 30-somthing according to last year's engineering college rankings.

In Andhra Pradesh JEE coaching is big business. Its a perfect example of commercialization of education. All kinds of classes have mushroomed all over the state(I'v seen only Andhra, perhaps its like this other places too perhaps not) and leading the brigade are all those Narayanas and Chaitanyas. I apologise to those might have studied in these institutions but frankly I don't approve of them , or the way students are kept locked up in their hostels ,with terrible food ,even worse living conditions..from what I'v heard from Narayana/Chaitanya ex-students or read in the newspapers. The 45K I paid for my coaching too I realize is dirt cheap, even by Pune coaching standards ..lol..the big fat recession proof education business.

Everywhere its the same actually..so I guess its up to the student to take the best out of his or her class..

What to do after 10th..

OK,actually this is what happened.
After my boards my friend Amulya told me about these free career counselling sessions. I attended one just for TP and I was like totally bowled over, the speaker Mr.Hora- he completely managed to convince me that this in what I should do in life- I should prepare for IITJEE.

What 2 do after 10th....
There was certain information I was looking for on the net, that I did not, that was first-hand info, for somone as blank as I was, about college. Hence I'l thought I'd share my story about my '13th standard' (thats what it was for me till a few years back :) and everything leading up to it..
I remember ..this same time ,3 summers back, I was fresh out of St.Mary's school with a 94.2% in the boards. I was full of confidence ,looking down upon all the lower folk who couldn't do as well as me .
Ofcourse in today's Competitive world perhaps even 99.99% is not enough for coaxing ,nagging parents, nevertheless I felt I'd achieved somthing. So now what? I was impatient for college. The Bollywood movies had painted a preety rosy picture of 'Hanging out', 'bunking' ,a wonderful perfect life complete with my knight in shining armour ..No more slogging away all night over bald revolutionaries (I meant the history textbook ;)..no more studies..I know you gals and guys must be laughing your gut out at my naiveness. For what followed...
Some one of my friends had started going to some sort of wierd classes that charged 45k for two years coaching..sheesh..which idiot would pay so much! Why I'd never really needed any most of my life. Now what was that 'it-chy' ? Sorry ..'it-gee'? Ohhh! Ok IIT -JEE ! Supposedly some elusive ,inaccessible accomplishment meant only for an elite few superhumanly intelligent students.
Bahhhh ! A piece of cake ...I've got 94.2 havn't I ?!
I decided to attend the orientation just to show the lowly being how its done ..But what I was in for that day ,I'd have never imagined..it was almost like an awakening.
With every word THE God of all things Brainy- Mr.Lalit Kumar pronounced I felt like sinking further more into the ground! It was a different experience..nothing like the bookish 'mugging' work I was used to. I felt stupid. The others students fared much better. I realized I'd been a frog in a pond all along..
